Conflict Modes. 1st Post Due by Day 3. Your written response to this discussion prompt assesses your ability to (a) summarize effective methods to communicate with all stakeholders, considering their individual interests, priorities and cultural differences for programming of students with disabilities, (b) clarify the potential challenges in the process of collaboration in the public school setting, and (c) critique proactive methods for interactive and effective communication with those of differing perspectives.
When working within a group, especially with differing perspectives, conflict is a common occurrence. In order to understand your teammates, and collaborate and communicate effectively, it is useful to understand your own conflict management style. To prepare for this discussion post, watch the following CPP, Inc. (2014) video and read the short Meier (2011) article, describing the types of conflict management styles. Then, take the short quiz to identify your own style.
Initial Post: Include the following elements in your post:
 Identify your conflict management style and describe what it means in your own words.
 Do you agree with the outcome? Why or why not? If not, which category do you feel is more akin to your
management style?
 Identify three strengths and three weaknesses for your identified style.
 How will this knowledge help serve you in your work in the special education profession?
Guided Response: Respond to a peer that identified the same conflict management style as your own and contrast your list of strengths and weaknesses. Then, respond to a second peer that identified a different conflict management style than your own. Discuss how you think the two styles could work together. What would be potential strengths and weaknesses in your relationship?
